Making full use of his oratorical skills, the Union minister termed Mr Naidu’s schemes as impractical. “He is indulging in political gambling as he is fully aware that the TD will be defeated in the general elections,” said Mr Reddy.
The Union minister targeted Mr Naidu in all the speeches he made in Moinabad, Chevella and Shankarpally mandals on Wednesday.
“No one will take Mr Naidu’s promises seriously since he did nothing for the public during his nine year tenure,” said the Union minister, who exuded confidence about being elected from Chevella. “No political party can stop me from winning the Chevella seat. I am an acceptable leader from Dilli to Galli,” he said.
Mr Jaipal Reddy also criticised the Praja Rajyam and said that such “sub-regional parties” would not have any impact on the elections.
“The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, has performed miracles in the last five years,” he said. “He implemented the Rs 2-a-kg rice scheme though it was not in the 2004 manifesto. People will certainly vote for the Congress since Dr Rajasekhar Reddy has credibility unlike Mr Naidu.”
Mr Jaipal Reddy assured he would speed up the prestigious Pranahita-Chevella project which will bring water to the parched district. He also promised that GO 111, which prohibits polluting industries within 10 km of any lake providing drinking water, will be repealed once the Godavari Waters were brought to the Ranga Reddy district.
The state minister for mines, Ms Sabita Indra Reddy, and her son, Mr Karteek Reddy, who was denied the Chevella seat, are also campaigning for Mr Jaipal Reddy. “Though I am contesting from Maheswaram Assembly constituency, I will continue to work for the development of Chevella with the support of Mr Jaipal Reddy,” said Ms Sabita Indra Reddy.
Mr Jaipal Reddy and his followers said they were getting overwhelming support from the party.
