Who is behind SHRUTI HASAN's hot looks?

The latest star kid on the block, Shruti Haasan is all set to dazzle the silver screen with her debut in Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd’s film Luck directed by Soham Shah. Shruti, who oozes confidence and a raw appeal, is attracting attention for her rock star looks! So who’s behind this newbie’s look? It’s stylist Binal Shah. “Yes, it was a huge responsibility to style Shruti. The film’s look is very rugged and real, but in songs I had to bring out the glamorous side.” Shruti’s number ‘Aazma Luck’ has become the newest sensation and rage amongst youngsters! Not only the song but also the look is appreciated! “My favourite is the rock song of Shruti. I chose the colour black, used a leather onepiece top and rivetted it. Teamed it up with a pair of well-fitted jeans and used silver chains all over the jeans which made them very heavy!” News is that the outfit was around 10 kilos heavy and was very inconvenient to wear! So much so that after the hottie got into the outfit, it was not possible for her to use the rest room! “But the darling that she is, she just smiled through and looked like a rock star!” smiles Binal. Luck is releasing worldwide on July 24 2009.

Genelia D’Souza is Busy Bee in 2009

For an actor who has managed to survive in Bollywood with just three films to account for her six years, 2009 is definitely hectic. Four back-to-back releases is a sure shot way to ensure that audiences don’t get half a chance to forget you. Not that anyone will forget either Meow or Aditi from Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Naa in a hurry.

“Many people still call me Aditi or Meow, and it feels great,” laughs 21-year-old Genelia D’Souza. This from the girl who refused to change her rather non-filmi name to something starry. “I have been asked to change it several times; on my debut, in the South and even before Jaane Tu…. But, Genelia is special since it is an amalgamation of my parents’ names — Jeanette and Neil,” she says. Life’s looking up for Genelia, who has been second time lucky in Bollywood, after a dismal start in 2003 with Tujhe Meri Kasam and Masti, both with Riteish Deshmukh. She will be seen first with Fardeen Khan in Life Partner, an Abbas-Mustan film. Then comes Anees Bazmi’s It’s My Life with Hurman Baweja, a remake of the Telugu Bommarillu that was remade in Tamil as Santosh Subramaniam — she played the lead in both. Towards the end of the year are two exciting releases — David Dhawan’s Hook Ya Crook with John Abraham and Ken Ghosh’s debut film with Shahid Kapur, tentatively titled Yahoo. “In Life Partner, I play Sanjana, a rich girl who doesn’t need to work for a living. She is brought up in the lap of luxury in South Africa, and keeps changing professions just for the heck of it. One day she is a singer, the next, a painter. But she is very attached to her father and her boyfriend. She’s the polar opposite of me, in terms of being a party person with no inclination to earn!” adds Genelia.

It’s My Life must’ve been a breeze considering she has already played the same role in Telugu and Tamil, and won awards for the Telugu one as well. “Not really. The character has been defined differently in the Hindi film; so there are differences. The story is essentially about a father-son relationship, where I act as a catalyst,” she says.

Compared to Jaane Tu… don’t these roles appear smaller to her? Genelia, who is a bigger star in the Telugu film industry than in Hindi for now, says: “I have always maintained that I need not be present from the first frame to the last, but even if I do five scenes, they should make a difference. And, the Hindi film industry is thankfully not treating me as a newcomer. All the people I have worked with, from John to Hurman to Shahid, have made me feel very comfortable.”

Not many know that Genelia is a State-level athlete and a National-level football player. “I was way too much into sports and studies. I even completed my bachelors in management while doing my first film, and thought an MNC job would suit me fine!” she says.

Films were a by-product of modelling that happened when she was spotted as a bridesmaid at a wedding. “I even auditioned for the Parker pens advertisement hesitantly because I was appearing for a management exam the next day, and wanted to study instead of shoot,” she smiles, thinking of the opportunity she would have lost out on.

Now, she is getting infamous as the replacement specialist in the brand world, having replaced Rani Mukherjee as the face of Fanta and Dabur Vatika, and Preity Zinta in Perk. “While it is true I have replaced them, there is no comparison. I am just taking baby steps while they have crossed milestones.” Is there no love lost between the senior actors and her? “I have met both Rani and Preity, and both are very sweet. Preity even told me she loved Jaane Tu…”

Has the success of Jaane Tu… helped her get over the ‘Riteish Deshmukh’s girlfriend’ tag? “I don’t know how those talks began. Possibly, it was because we shot for two movies over quite a long period.” So, is there nothing?

“We are good friends and I will not refuse to have coffee with him just because someone thinks something’s brewing between us,” she adds, defiantly.

Shooting in Hyderabad for her Telugu film Katha, Genelia says, “Sports has taught me that there is only one winner. It may be okay to tell yourself that you came in second, but you’ve got to admit you’ve lost.”

But, this girl isn’t here to take that!

Asin says I’m not carnivorous.

Asin is unamused at media reports that have said that she is an avid meat eater. “Hello,” says the Southern sensation, who is now a Bollywood hottie. “I do eat meat occasionally but on most days I have a simple vegetarian meal. When I’m home in Kerala, I cherish my fish curry and rice. However, to say I can’t do without meat even for a day is an exaggerated fact. I’m not carnivorous.” Asin also clarifies that she wasn’t approached by PETA to be their ambassador, so reports that said that they changed their mind about her because they discovered her meat eating habits is also false. “Where do such reports come from?” asks Asin. Well, rumours and rejoinders are a part of the celebrity trail, aren’t they?

Aishwarya Rai's new talent discovered !

Aishwarya Rai seems to have many hidden talents. One that was recently discovered is her quick grasp of languages. And the unit which discovered this secret is none other than Shankar’s Endhiran when the pretty babe held her own against our glib-talking super-talking Superstar.

“Since Tamil isn’t really familiar territory for Aishwarya, everyone, includ
ing Rajini sir and director Shankar, was ready for several re-takes while she was memorising her lines.”
To everyone’s surprise, Aishwarya got a grip of the language in no time at all. “She was rattling off the dialogues and getting the hang of the emotions with equal skill in both the Hindi and Tamil takes. This much impressed Rajini sir, who has waited for years to work with Aishwarya.”

When asked about the incident, Aishwarya laughs. “Regional languages have never been a problem. I did a Bengali film Chokher Bali and was able to get a hang of the complex intonations while shooting. However, they later dubbed for my character as they needed a particular sing-song tone,” she reveals.

Now, the buzz in the Endhiran unit is that they are planning to retain her Tamil lines in the final print. Says the actress, “I’m not familiar with Tamil. But my first film Iruvar was in Tamil and I had to say lengthy lines in that film. From my beginnings with Mani Ratnam in Tamil, to this film, it’s been quite a journey.”

Kambakkht Ishq is remake of Kamal, Simran Bramhachari

Akshay Kumar- Kareena Kapoor's romantic comedy "Kambakkht Ishq" is the remake of Kamal Haassan and simran starrer 2002 hit Bramhachari. The film was earlier to be remade in Hindi by writer-turned-director Anees Bazmee for south-based production house G.V. Films, which had acquired the remaking rights. But it was producer Sajid Nadiadwala who finally made it after buying remaking rights of the same film by reportedly shelling out Rs.7.5 million.

In this bollwood flick, Akshay plays the role of hollywood stunt master and kareena plays the role of a surgeon who leaves watch in the stomach of Akshay during a operation and hence the love drama starts. Though the movie is average it got good collections all over the world due to crazy combination of Akshay and kareena.

I dont want to restrict my career to Tollywood says this actress

Of late there's an influx of beauties in Tollywood who’ve got college in mind. The latest is Kolkata girl Madhurima who spends two hours every night studying, as she wants to graduate with good marks. The model-turned actress began her film career in Bollywood and has now gravitated to Telugu cinema. However she clarifies she would not “want to restrict” herself to Tollywood or Bollywood, and would like to try Bengali films. “Language, co-stars and banners are not my criteria for choosing a movie. A good story with a meaningful role is what I am looking for,” she emphasises. Continuing in the same breath, she says, “Item songs, special appearances and run-of-the-mill films are not my cup of tea.”That's a tall order indeed in tinsel town.

Shriya getting new power with yoga

Shriya Saran is in raptures these days. Reason? The versatile actress has been experiencing bliss by closing her eyes and blocking all unwanted thoughts. In short, the actress is into yoga. In fact, she was in Coimbatore recently to attend a workshop on yoga and meditation. “I’m into yoga and am learning it professionally. I heard about this workshop by a famous guru in Coimbatore and decided to attend the programme,” says an exuberant Shriya.
So, how was the experience? “It was wonderful. I was staying with many others in a camp and that too, in the middle of a jungle. I used to wake up early in the morning and practise all forms of asanas,” she says. According to the pretty lass, yoga and meditation keep her going. “Yoga keeps my mind fresh, and pumps the muchneeded energy into me. It also helps me relieve tension,” she says. The knowledge she gained from the workshop, we are sure, will come in handy for this pretty lass, who has her kitty full in Kollywood.
