Prakash Raj Praises Gaganam Director

Major victory...that's how actor-producer Prakash Raj describes the success of his recently-released film.

Prakash Raj is over the moon. Against all odds, including a court case, he has been able to release his Radha Mohan-directed Payanam, which has been getting rave reviews and setting the cash registers ringing. A relaxed Prakash Raj, who is currently shooting for his film with Ram Gopal Varma film that's being made in five days, in Hyderabad, says, "The release and success of Payanam (Gaganam in Telugu) is a major victory for me. I fought against a financier who had cooked up accounts and won the battle, thanks to Lalita, my ex-wife who is now a good friend. She had signed some documents a few years ago when I took the loan. The financier thought that by dragging her into the issue, he could fix me. But, she stood with me and turned the tables on him. Now, we've filed a case against the financier for forgery!"

Prakash further explains, "I salute the audiences for making the film a hit. First and foremost, it gives me tremendous joy that a film that I believed in succeeded at the BO. It proves that if a film is made with passion and purpose by people who believe in good cinema, it will work with the audiences. Hats off to Radha Mohan and the entire team for coming up with content that has been appreciated by the audiences."

The actor and producer feels that the film's success augurs well for the industry. He says, "I know songs and heroine are a must in movies as it is part of our filmi culture. But, I think Payanam worked also because the audiences are fed up of clich├ęs and are looking for a change. About taking swipes at the superstar syndrome prevailing in Tamil cinema through the 'Shining Star Chandrakanth' character in the film, Prakash laughs and says, "He represents all falsehood in our cinema. No single person has been targetted. We are laughing at ourselves through that character."

Meanwhile, director Lingusamy, who is distributing the film, says, "I liked it immensely and decided to buy the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights though it did not have the routine commercial ingredients. The response from the audience has been fantastic."
